New Snoop Dogg Release…I Love It

This song is a different approach by west coast rapper Snoop Dogg, teaming up with Pharell an Brandy was a good look. Sounds like Pharell has been having a few lessons, don’t you think?….lol. All trying to hit them high notes!!!! Brandy also sounds gorgeous on this track, she never fails to impress me after all these years.

What Do You Think??

Monica’s First Single ‘Everything’

After initially announcing that ‘Love Over Me’ and ‘One In A Lifetime’ were to serve as dual lead singles from Monica’s forthcoming ‘Still Standing’ LP, her label J Records have done a 180 and revealed that the track ‘Everything’ will instead now be the record’s first single. The decision was made after the 29 year old’s fans bombarded label execs with requests for the song to be the lead single, a want shared by Monica herself – as highlighted on her BET reality series also titled ‘Still Standing’.

While ‘Everything’ is undoubtedly a great track, it most certainly doesn’t strike me as single material in the slightest. It’s not because it’s not a good song (though the ad-libbing is a bit much and all over the place at times). However it just doesn’t possess that certain something Monica so clearly needs right now – a radio/chart-friendly track, which manages to sound contemporary, yet also incorporates her trademark sound. She’ll no doubt appeal to her fans with this one, yet as history has taught many an artist, sometimes  fans just aren’t enough to ensure a well-selling record. Ever-important to capture and convert is the casual listener. It’ll be interesting to see how this fares nontheless.

Elaine Brown- Black Panther Power!!! GO GIRL!!!

This book follows her life from childhood up through her activism with the Black Panther Party. In the early chapters of the book, Brown recalls growing up on York Street in a rough neighborhood of North Philadelphia. Due to her mother’s persistence, she is able to attend an experimental elementary school in a nice neighborhood and becomes friends with some white Jewish girls. From that point on, Brown describes being a part of two worlds. She’d act “white” while hanging out with her school friends, and “black” when with the girls in her neighborhood.

At age 19, Brown moves to California, where she has a love affair with Jay Kennedy. She later ends the affair, and through her neighbor begins to meet people involved in the Black Panther Party. Brown describes her experiences in developing a black consciousness, and later, a feminist consciousness. She overcomes sexism in the party as well as her own personal obstacles to be the head of the party from 1974-1977. The book also covers her two runs for councilwoman in Oakland. There is a large amount of writing on friend, lover, and fellow Panther Huey P. Newton, including information on his theory of “reactionary intercommunalism,” in which he foresaw the weakening of the nation-state under the power of the market economy.

I’ve read this book and it’s truly inspirational! Elaine Brown is an icon in my eyes, she represents a strong black women!!

“He Didn’t Even Know That I Existed”

He didn’t even know that I existed. But I knew that he was gifted. And every time that he
walked passed he didn’t know it but my spirits got lifted. You see I was drawn to him seeing
nothing but his inter luminous radiation wanting to make love to his mind on a spiritual
pathological affiliation.
But he didn’t even know that I existed
Wanting him to go deeper and turn me inside out just so that he could catch the penetration
of what I was feeling. I wanted to kiss him. But in the dark areas of where the evidence of
my love could not be seen I wanted to give him all of my love and act as if a fragment and
show him the things that could not be seen. Like the quiet storm when rain falls gently on
my pane, that’s how I wanted him to be on me. Like a pen, when it covers a white sheet of
paper with its black cathartic release…just from that one thought alone. Like the imagery
used to design a buildings basic diagnosis. I was tryna be the imagery used to be the final
thought of his one and only. If only he could hold me and mold me like a sculpture and
shape me bare a free. With nothing else to offer but all the makings of me. Promising him
not to waste his time but just wanting to be blessed by the essence and presence of his company.
He didn’t even know that I existed.
If only he could hold me for a minute the way that history held onto Nefertiti’s capturing
beauty. Or Picasso holding onto that paint brush and softly sweeping the bristles of that
brush along the canvas; was just the way that he had swept me off my feet.
But…he didn’t even know of my existence.
He didn’t even notice that I loved him. I love you and you hadn’t even known me yet. But
I’ll say it again just to let you know that I mean it. I want your time and I don’t want your
sex in order for you to believe it. Or for me to receive it. And baby….when it comes to me
and you and the time is right, I won’t give you my sex. I wanna make love to all the mental
makings of yo body. I’m here to stimulate your mind and promise you to not treat like all
the other girls before me. I just wanna love you and love you in slow motion. Promising to
adore you, cherish you, and give you nothing else but pure devotion. I’ll treat you like a
king. And nothing else would make me more happy than just to know that you are pleased.
Just as long as you don’t treat me like you got me on a lease. But everything you want…I’ll
be. And I know your girl might hate, but that’s ok. I’ll give her a physical and mental
demonstration of how you and her were supposed to be…
But then I snapped back into reality.
I’m standing here spittin and you still didn’t notice me.

When looking into black poetry i came across this poem that could relate to a lot of people. The words are heartfelt and you can tell she means everything she says.
